Privacy policy
Effective 18 August 2026 · applies to cyansharkgames.com and all Cyan Shark games
The short version: no accounts, no cookies, no adverts, and nothing that says who you are. We count how many times each page is opened, so we know which parts of the site people read. A friend room briefly holds the nickname and the answers you type, and deletes them with the room. Nothing here is sold or shared with anyone.
What the games keep on your device
The games remember your progress, your settings, and your choice of light or dark theme. That information is stored only on your own device — in your browser's local storage for the web versions, or in the app's private storage on a phone. It is never transmitted anywhere, because there is no server to transmit it to.
Clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app, removes all of it. We could not recover it for you if we wanted to — we never had it.
What this website does
- It serves static pages. There are no accounts. The only form is the one you use to send feedback, and it asks for nothing you do not type.
- It sets no cookies, of any kind, for any purpose.
- It counts how many times each page is opened, and nothing else about you — described below.
- Its fonts and images are hosted here — pages make no requests to third parties.
- If you use the theme toggle, that single preference is kept in your browser's local storage and never leaves it.
Web versions of the games hosted on this domain behave the same way and are covered by this same policy.
Counting visits
We count how many times each page is opened, so we know which parts of the site people actually read. The counting is done by Vercel, who host this site; the figures stay with them and with us, and are never sold, shared, or joined to anything else.
What it records: the address of the page, the site you arrived from if there was one, your country, and the broad kind of device and browser you used.
How it tells one visit from another: not with a cookie — it sets none. It makes a short-lived fingerprint from your network address and browser details, mixed with a secret that is thrown away and replaced every day. The same person visiting on two different days is two different visitors as far as we are concerned, and there is no way to work backwards from it to a person, an address, or a name.
What it does not record: anything you type, which buttons you press, where your pointer goes, how far you scroll, or anything at all that happens inside a game. There is no profile of you, and nothing follows you to any other website.
App stores
If you install a game from Google Play or the App Store, the download and any payment are handled by Google or Apple under their own privacy policies. The stores may show us aggregate, anonymous figures — install counts and the like — as they do for every developer. We never receive personal information about you from them.
Feedback you choose to send
If you write to support@cyansharkgames.com or use a feedback form on this site, we receive exactly what you typed and nothing else. Sharing an email address is always optional — leave it out and you stay anonymous. What you send is used only to answer you and to fix the problem, is never added to any list or shared with anyone, and is deleted once the matter is resolved. Confirmed problems appear, without your name, on the support board.
Playing together
Friend rooms are the one place where something you type briefly leaves your device.
In WordCrew, the nickname you choose and your guesses are stored in the studio's own database, so the room can share colour patterns between players. So that a room does not set a word somebody has already played, your device also sends the list of words it has seen. It is a list of words and nothing else — not attached to you, not readable as a history of when you played.
In Open Secret, the nickname and avatar you choose are stored, along with the answers you write, your votes, and the Spy's final guess. Your answers are shown to everyone in the room with your nickname beside them — that is the game, so write them knowing the room will read them. Nothing about earlier rounds is sent from your device: the game works out which words a room has already used from that room's own history.
Both games are the same in the ways that matter. Rooms have no accounts and record no identity — pick any nickname you like, and nothing about your address, device or location is stored beside it. A room, with everything in it, is deleted 24 hours after it was created, or 5 minutes after the match finishes, whichever comes first. No record of a finished match is kept anywhere; if you want one, the game offers to save it to your own device. Solo play never leaves your browser.
Children
The games are suitable for all ages. Nothing kept here identifies anybody, and that is as true for a child as for anyone else: a page is counted the same way whoever opened it, and a room holds a nickname somebody chose and the answers they typed, then deletes both within a day. There is no account to make, no email to give, and no way for us to know a child was ever here.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the change will be described in the log below with a new effective date. This page's address will not move.

Change log
- 18 August 2026 — the site now counts how many times each page is opened, which it did not before. It sets no cookie, records nothing you type or press, and cannot be traced back to a person; the new "Counting visits" section says exactly what it does and does not see. The promise in the footer changed with it, because it used to say there were no analytics and that is no longer true.
- 18 August 2026 — "Playing together" now covers Open Secret as well as WordCrew. That game stores an avatar and the answers you write, and shows those answers to the room with your nickname beside them, so it is described separately rather than folded in. It sends nothing from your device about earlier rounds.
- 18 August 2026 — corrected two things that had stopped being true: this page said the site had no forms, when the feedback form has existed since 11 August, and the short version said no gameplay was collected, when a friend room has always briefly held what you typed into it. Nothing changed about what happens — only about what this page said.
- 15 August 2026 — rooms now also receive the list of words your device has already played, so that nobody competes on a word they have seen. It is words only, not attached to you, and it is deleted with the room like everything else.
- 13 August 2026 — "Playing together" now says a room is also deleted a few minutes after a match finishes, and that no record of a finished match is kept. Nothing new is collected; rooms are deleted sooner than before.
- 11 August 2026 — added "Playing together", describing WordCrew's friend rooms: nickname and guesses only, deleted with the room after 24 hours.
- 11 August 2026 — added "Feedback you choose to send", describing what happens to voluntary messages. Nothing else changed.
- 10 August 2026 — first published.
